Rubanda Gears Up to Host 4th Annual Kigezi Regional Health Sector Joint Performance Review Mission Story by Kobugabe Joanita, Communication Officer, Rubanda District Local Government Rubanda District is intensifying preparations to host the 4th Annual Kigezi Regional Health Sector Joint Performance Review Mission (JRM), an annual health evaluation forum that brings together health leaders from across the Kigezi sub-region. The JRM is convened by Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in collaboration with regional health departments and development partners to assess healthcare service delivery, rank district performance, and identify solutions to key health challenges affecting communities. During a planning meeting held on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at the Rubanda District Council Hall, the District Health Officer, Dr. David Mporampora, announced that this years JRM will be held in Rubanda district from 26th-28th August 2026 at Volcano Hotel in Rubanda District. Dr. Mporampora said the district has already embarked on a number of pre-JRM activities, including integrated health camps aimed at extending healthcare services to communities ahead of the main event. He noted that the activity will be jointly funded by all districts in the Kigezi sub-region, with additional support expected from development partners and other organizations. The In-charge of Hamurwa Health Centre IV, Mr. Cyril Tuhame, emphasized the need to prioritize preparations, citing the limited time remaining before the event. "We have limited time; therefore, we should give this activity priority and mobilize resources," he said. Mr. Tuhame added that efforts should focus on creating awareness through the printing of banners and holding meetings with key stakeholders to mobilize financial support. The Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Akintori Muhuta, advised the district to benchmark with other districts that have previously hosted the Joint Performance Review Mission in order to adopt best practices and ensure a successful event. He also urged the health department to immediately launch public awareness campaigns about the forthcoming function. Dr. Abdon Birungi explained that each district will organize a health baraza, where members of the public will provide feedback on health service delivery and identify areas requiring improvement. The issues raised during these barazas will be presented and addressed during the Joint Performance Review Mission. He added that, as the host district, Rubanda will organize a health baraza, integrated health camps, and radio talk shows as part of the preparations, with all activities expected to be accommodated within the district's allocated budget. The Joint Performance Review Mission is expected to bring together health officials, district leaders, development partners, and other stakeholders to review achievements, share experiences, and develop strategies aimed at improving healthcare service delivery across the Kigezi region. During the meeting, members resolved to conduct a two-day integrated health camp at the district headquarters on Wednesday, 19th August, and Thursday, 20th August 2026, to bring essential healthcare services closer to the people. Hon. Obed Mutatiina, the Rubanda District Secretary for Education and Health, pledged the district's full support towards the successful hosting of the 4th Annual Kigezi Regional Health Sector Joint Performance Review Mission. He said the district executive recognizes the importance of the event, noting that it provides an opportunity for stakeholders to evaluate health service delivery and develop practical solutions that will improve healthcare services in communities across the Kigezi sub-region. He assured the organizing committee of the district's commitment to ensuring the function is successfully held. Representing the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC), Mr.Adrian Tusiime pledged the organization's support towards the successful organization of the event. He said JCRC is committed to working with the district and other partners to ensure the Joint Performance Review Mission achieves its objectives and contributes to strengthening healthcare service delivery in the region.
